Recent Projects

6/08 – 9/08 HealthNow, Buffalo, NY

Implemented Cognos Planning version 8.3 for this New York-based health insurance company. Designed the membership and medical loss ratio (MLR) models in Analyst. Created Contributor applications for both models. Conducted onsite training. This project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

I was subcontracted directly through Cognos, an IBM company, for this project.

1/08 – 5/08 Zimmer, Warsaw, IN

Zimmer is a global manufacturer of surgical implants. I was hired to update Zimmer’s 2008 Cognos Planning model and prepare it for the 2009 annual budgeting process.

After copying the existing model to a development environment, I updated calculations, formats, and created new d-links. I deleted unnecessary objects from the model. After the new model was copied over to a production environment, I created new admin links and system links. I tested the calculations and links to ensure the integrity of the new model.

This project was completed on time and on budget. I was subcontracted through MMY Consulting of Indianapolis, IN.

10/07 MedAssets, Alpharetta, GA

MedAssets provides software and services to hospitals and medical clinics. They needed hands-on training in Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor delivered onsite at their corporate headquarters in Alpharetta, GA, for some of their employees.

The classes were completed within the budgeted timeframe and were well received by MedAssets.

3/07 – 9/07 University of NorthTexas, Denton, TX

I implemented Cognos Planning Analyst and Contributor version 8.1 for this large university (34,000 students, 5000 employees).

The University of North Texas needed a planning solution that would centralize their annual budgeting process. With over 1200 departments submitting budgets every year, including revisions and adjustments, the budget office needed to automate many processes that had been done manually and on spreadsheets.

I initially conducted classroom training onsite. Then I worked with a team of employees from the University and directed the rollout of the planning models. We designed cubes for expenses, revenues, and payroll. I supervised another senior-level Cognos Planning consultant and a ReportNet consultant.

I was subcontracted for this assignment through Fujitsu Consulting. This project was completed on time and on budget.

12/06 – 2/07 Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, WI

Miller Brewing needed a support specialist to troubleshoot complex Cognos Planning sales forecast models. Fixing the models required expert knowledge of Analyst and Contributor version 7.3.

Correcting the Cognos errors involved analyzing macros, d-links, and saved selections. The analysis also included working with technical personnel on non-Cognos matters such as operating systems, hardware, and other environmental issues.

During this engagement I conducted classroom training with client personnel as well as other outside consultants.

This project was successfully completed.

7/06 – 11/06 Miva, Fort Myers, FL

Miva is a publicly held internet advertising company. I was brought in to implement a comprehensive sales and expense planning system for both domestic and international operations. The Analyst and Contributor applications within Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 were the tools chosen for this project.

After conducting on-site training, a three phase plan was created to build the U.S., international, and consolidation models. On the expense side, cubes were created to allow managers to budget payroll, travel, and other items through the web. For capital expenditures, asset purchases and depreciation cubes were developed.

Revenue forecasting was modeled based on divisional criteria and also deployed through the web.

I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this assignment. This project went live in October, 2006.

5/06 – 7/06 NationsRent, Fort Lauderdale, FL

NationsRent was a large, publicly-held equipment leasing company. NationsRent was acquired by Sun Belt on August 31, 2006, shortly after my engagement was completed.

I was hired to assist the director of finance with updating an existing budget model and documentation of NationsRent’s annual operating budget.

Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 was used as the primary tool. I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this assignment. This engagement was successfully completed.

4/06 – 5/06 PolyVision, Suwanee, GA

This manufacturer of electronic white boards needed a system to prepare their operating budgets that would not require the creation of hundreds of individual spreadsheets. I was brought in to mentor a new Cognos consultant who had started the implementation.

Cognos Enterprise Planning version 7.3 was used for this assignment. The project was completed on time and on budget.

I was subcontracted through Sky Solutions for this engagement.

1/06 – 4/06 Micron Technology, Boise, ID

Micron Technology is an international semiconductor manufacturer and the largest employer in the state of Idaho. Their annual sales exceed $5B.

I designed a pricing and profitability model for Micron. The company needed to simplify the way their salespeople determine pricing when negotiating contracts with their key accounts. Using Cognos Enterprise Planning version 7.3, I helped them to develop a model that calculated optimum price points based on volume, availability, features, and competitive bids.

I was subcontracted through Son Systems for this assignment. This 11-week project was completed on time and on budget.

10/05 – 12/05 Insinkerator, Racine, WI

I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for Insinkerator, the world’s largest manufacturer of garbage disposals. Insinkerator needed to automate their sales planning and forecasting process and deploy it through the web. I built an integrated forecasting system to forecast sales:

  • By channel
  • By product
  • By product group
  • By month
This system enables account managers to enter, submit, and modify their sales forecasts and do “What-if” analysis. It replaces an outdated Excel-based forecasting system.

I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. This 8-week implementation was done on time and on budget.

9/05 – 10/05 Severn Trent Services, Arvada, CO

I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for this national chain of environmental testing laboratories. Severn Trent needed to streamline their operational budgeting and forecasting process to include workflow to track the status of each unit’s sales and expense budget.

Because Severn Trent’s labs are located throughout the U.S., they needed a web-based solution. The models that were implemented included:

  • Sales
  • Operating Expenses
  • Payroll
  • Capital Budgeting
This system replaced an inefficient Excel-based process. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The implementation was done on time and on budget.

9/05 Omron, Schaumburg, IL

Omron is a Japanese-owned manufacturer of factory automation equipment. They needed hands-on training for Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for some of their employees to include the Analyst, Contributor, and Manager applications.

I custom designed a training program for them that was conducted onsite at their U.S. headquarters in Schaumburg, IL. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The training was completed on-time and on-budget.

7/05 – 8/05 Blue Bird Corporation, Fort Valley, GA

I implemented Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.3 for this school bus manufacturer. Blue Bird’s primary need was to streamline their manufacturing planning process so that they could quickly reforecast man hours, material purchases, and changes to cash flow when production schedules were adjusted.

The Cognos model that I built replaced an inefficient system utilizing Excel and Cognos Finance. I was subcontracted through CD Group for this assignment. The project was done on time and on budget.

7/05 TallyGenicom, Chantilly, VA

TallyGenicom is a manufacturer of high speed impact printers. They needed a hands-on training program on Cognos Enterprise Planning Analyst and Contributor delivered at their corporate headquarters in Chantilly, VA, for some of their employees.

I conducted the training at their site and it was done on time and on budget.

6/05 – 7/05 Graymont Services, Richmond, BC

Graymont Services is a Canadian-based mining company headquartered in British Columbia. They had been using Cognos Enterprise Planning 7.2 for their operational budgets. They needed assistance implementing a rolling forecast model that could be updated monthly with current pricing and volume information.

I built their rolling forecast model on time and on budget.
